- Before Junior, A-Rod, The Big Unit and Ichiro, the Seattle Mariners' lone icon was Dave Niehaus and his golden Midwestern voice. For 32 years, Niehaus has been the voice of the Mariners.
- Times: Media predicts dismal season for Huskies and Cougs
- If the media is right, it figures to be a long season for Tyrone Willingham's Huskies as well as WSU. The Huskies are picked to finish eighth in the conference and the Cougars, dead last. Oregon is predicted to finish third and OSU, sixth.

- Bobby Engram isn't happy, but he's in. Top rookie picks Lawrence Jackson and John Carlson are happy, but they are still out. The Seahawks got off to a backward start to training camp Thursday.
- Red Sox sweep in Seattle for 1st time in 15 years
- Mike Lowell hit a two-run single off Sean Green in the 12th inning, and the Red Sox took advantage of two outfield errors to beat the lowly Mariners 6-3 on Wednesday and complete Boston's first series sweep at Seattle in 15 years.
- Times: Willingham finally lands 2009 recruit
- Washington's Tyrone Willingham will kick off the festivities at Pac-10 media day in Los Angeles this morning as the first coach to take the podium. One question he won't have to answer is why the Huskies don't have any commitments for the recruiting Class of 2009.
- Mariners to offer peanut-free seating
- The Mariners will offer peanut-free seating zones during home games on August 5 and September 9, allowing fans with peanut allergies to attend without risk of reaction.
- Seattle loss of T-birds is Kent's gain
- The suburb expects a big economic boost as the hockey team moves to the new Kent Events Center starting January 1.

- Lawrence Jackson, the 28th pick from Southern California, agreed to an $11.25 million, five-year contract Friday morning, according to a person familiar with the deal.
- WNBA suspends 10 players and Mahorn for skirmish
- The WNBA punished so many players for their roles in this week's skirmish that the league is staggering the suspensions by alphabetical order. "None of us can recall an incident like this," WNBA president Donna Orender said Thursday during a conference call.
